AJ Academy – Make your own ice cream!!!

AJA: Make Your Own Ice Cream

Hey Jammers! Did you know that August 2nd is National Ice Cream Sandwich Day?! To celebrate, you can follow the instructions in this Animal Jam Academy to make your very own ice cream! You won’t need any special tools or equipment, just a few items from around your kitchen.

:rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow:

This tasty treat is even more awesome because making it involves chemistry! The ice in this experiment is very important – it will help cool down the milk and help it freeze. But the ice can’t make this happen all on it’s own, which is why salt is added (just make sure you don’t get it in your ice cream!) But something super cool happens when you add salt to the ice. It actually LOWERS the freezing point, and increasing the amount of energy, or heat, it takes to melt.

:rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow: :rainbow:

Turns out the water in the bag that is formed from the melting ice is actually below freezing (32 degrees Fahrenheit!!) This super chilled water is able to suck heat away from the milk mixture faster than just ice making your tasty treat possible! Have some extra fun by taking your cool chemistry creation and smooshing it between some cookies to celebrate National Ice Cream Sandwich Day!

News Crew – Rainforests!

News Crew: Rainforest

The Rainforest is full of lots of really amazing animals! My AJ Buddies and I dressed up as snakes and went to sarepia forest! Considering snakes live in rainforests! Hey, did anyone else know that Giant bamboo plants can grow up to 9 inches a day in the rainforest? Wow! That’s tall.. Or maybe that More than 2,000 different species of butterflies are found in the rainforests of South America. That’s a lot of pretty wings flapping through the air! Maybe you’ve heard before that In the moist rainforests of South America, sloths move so slowly that algae are able to grow in their fur. That’s really strange, you know what else is really strange? Some rainforest monkeys are omnivores, eating both animals and plants.
Well, i’ll tell ya something really devastating actually, An area of a rainforest the size of a football field is being destroyed each second, sad huh? Let’s jump into some more facts! Did you happen to know this one? Rainforests only cover around 2 percent the total surface area of the Earth, but really about 50 percent of the plants and animals on the earth live in the rainforest. That’s something to leave ya thinking for a while. Hoppin on into our next fact, like a frog perhaps, Did you know the average temperature of the tropical rainforest remains between 70 and 85° F? That’s a cool fact! I mean hot fact.. Oh whatever! You get the point! Anyways, Insects make up the majority of living creatures in the tropical rainforest. Some may think “Yuck”, but some of the animals that rank higher than the insects in the food chain say “Yum!”
Moving on to some more fun and knowledge filled facts! Would you have happen to knew that Most of the tropical rainforests, approximately 57 percent, are located in developing countries. Well, Rainforests are pretty large! Wow, the last fact already? Here it comes! A variety of animals including snakes, frogs, birds, insects, cougars, chameleons, turtles, jaguars and many more are found in tropical rainforests, and here in Jamaa, Jammers can see some of those beautiful animals!
As always keep learning and make sure to Jam On!
